PhD Position at the Universidade do Porto within the SwitchFloc Grant Agreement – Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA)
The SwitchFloc Grant Agreement is a project funded under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme, aimed at training the next generation of professionals in innovative and sustainable aquaculture practices based on Biofloc Technology (BFT). The project provides a highly international, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral research environment, promoting close collaboration between academic institutions and industry partners.
We are currently inviting applications for a PhD position entitled:
“PROBioBF: Development of Probiotic-Based Disease Control Strategies for Biofloc Technology”
The main objective of this PhD position is to develop and fully characterize a probiotic-based biofloc inoculum for disease control in BFT systems. The selected candidate will be involved in the development of a microbial inoculum containing patented probiotic bacteria under BFT conditions (PROBioBF), the establishment of optimal environmental conditions to ensure a stable PROBioBF population, and the study of interactions between PROBioBF and the fish-associated microbiota.
In addition, the PhD candidate will evaluate the effects of PROBioBF on fish immunity and survival. The selected candidate will conduct laboratory analyses of products and samples generated during experimental trials and will be responsible for the analysis, interpretation, and discussion of results obtained within the project.
The PhD student will also be encouraged to prepare scientific publications and actively contribute to the dissemination of the project’s outcomes through conferences, workshops, and other outreach activities.
