PhD Position at the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research within the SwitchFloc Grant Agreement – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA)
The SwitchFloc Grant Agreement is a project funded under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) programme, aimed at training the next generation of professionals in innovative and sustainable aquaculture systems based on Biofloc Technology (BFT). The project provides a highly international, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral research environment, fostering close collaboration between academic institutions and industry partners.
We are currently inviting applications for a PhD position focused on the integration of Biofloc Technology (BFT) into alternative aquaculture systems, such as FlocPonics.
“Integration of Biofloc Technology (BFT) into FlocPonics Systems for Sustainable Aquaculture”
This doctoral research will explore how the incorporation of BFT into FlocPonics systems can support circular economy principles and enhance water sustainability in aquaculture. FlocPonics systems play a key role in mitigating the accumulation of nitrates (NO3-) and phosphates (PO4-) in water, contributing to improved water quality.
Moreover, this integrated approach enables enhanced productivity, as multiple species can be cultivated simultaneously within the same system. The PhD candidate will contribute to the evaluation and optimization of these systems, supporting the development of more efficient and environmentally sustainable aquaculture practices.
